CapyBio Cell Model Innovation Grant

Gain a clearer understanding of your cell model with a complimentary analysis of your single-cell RNA sequencing dataset.

Apply for the grant

Applications close January 8, 2027.

CapyBio helps researchers understand the cell identities present in their cultures and identify opportunities to improve differentiation strategies. Our approach combines single-cell transcriptomics with Capybara™ and CellOracle™ to assess cell identity and predict how changes to gene regulation could move cells toward a desired fate.

Capybara compares your cells with human reference datasets to identify intended, off-target, mixed, and transitional cell identities. CellOracle models gene regulatory networks to predict how transcription factor perturbations could influence cell identity. Together with our team’s tailored analysis, these tools provide insights to guide your next experiments.

What the grant includes

  • Two grantees will each receive a complimentary Capybara Advanced Analysis of up to 4 samples and 50,000 cells in total, with up to 3 benchmarking references (up to 30,000 cells each) included on top of that. This package builds on our Benchmarking Analysis to include differential gene expression and gene set enrichment analyses. Results depend on suitable data quality and study design.
  • One of the two grantees will also receive a complimentary CellOracle Differentiation Optimization Analysis.
  • Each grant includes an initial consultation to define the analysis around your research objectives and a follow-up meeting to discuss the findings and potential next steps. The grant is in-kind and not redeemable for cash.

Eligibility and selection

The grant is open to researchers at academic institutions, nonprofit research organizations, and biotechnology companies.

Applications will be evaluated based on scientific merit, relevance to CapyBio’s analytical capabilities, data availability, and technical feasibility.

Applicants must be authorized to share their data with CapyBio, including having any required consents (such as donor consent for human samples), institutional permissions, and approvals in place, and meeting any data-use restrictions and privacy requirements. Data must meet CapyBio’s minimum requirements, which we’ll share with selected applicants. Grantees must be able to send their data to CapyBio by February 9, 2027.

Important dates

  1. Applications close.

  2. Grantees announced. Please reply within 5 business days and sign the award letter to confirm your spot.

  3. Deadline for grantees to provide their data.

  4. Target date for delivery of results.

Sharing results

Once a grantee signs the award letter, CapyBio may publicly share selected results and figures from the analysis, along with the grantee’s name and a brief project description. Using an institution’s name or logo requires separate written approval from an authorized representative of that institution. Nothing is published without the grantee’s written approval. Grantees keep ownership of their data, and CapyBio deletes or returns it within 60 days after results are delivered.

Terms and conditions

Analysis scope & expected deliverables

Grantees will receive a complimentary Capybara Advanced Analysis package. This package includes a one-hour kickoff meeting to confirm goals and review sample details. The analysis covers cell type classification, UMAP visualization for top ten cell types, differential composition analysis, multi-ID analysis, identity score distributions, differentially expressed genes, and gene set enrichment analysis. These analyses depend on suitable data quality and study design. Projects may include up to 50,000 cells in total and up to four samples, plus up to three benchmarking reference datasets of up to 30,000 cells each. Following analysis, CapyBio will generate an executive summary and recommendations for next steps. There will be a one-hour concluding consultation to review the findings of the analysis. One grantee will also receive a complimentary CellOracle Differentiation Optimization Analysis, with scope and deliverables confirmed in the award letter. Following data submission by February 9, 2027, CapyBio’s target date to deliver results is March 26, 2027.

Data ownership

Grantees will retain ownership of their data and may use the reports and figures generated from their analysis in their own research, presentations and publications. CapyBio retains all rights to its underlying tools, software, pipelines and methods. Any use of the data beyond the agreed analysis, including internal R&D or product development, will require separate authorization.

Confidentiality

CapyBio will treat your dataset and any non-public information you share as confidential. We will use them only to carry out the agreed analysis, and only the CapyBio team and the qualified contractors and service providers working on your project, who are bound by confidentiality, will have access. We will delete or return your data within 60 days after your results are delivered. This does not apply to results and figures you have approved for public sharing.

Permitted use of results

The intention of this grant is to generate marketing material using real single cell RNA sequencing data analysis. Once the award letter is signed, CapyBio may use selected figures and results generated from the analysis on CapyBio’s website, social media, webinars, newsletters and conference materials. Where it makes sense, we may develop these into case studies, which will be jointly approved with you. All public materials require your written approval before publication.

Publicity rights

Publicity rights take effect only after you have signed the award letter. From then on, CapyBio may publicly share your name, a brief description of your research, and selected results and figures from the analysis on CapyBio’s website, social media, webinars, newsletters and conference materials. We will only use your institution’s name or logo with separate written approval from an authorized representative of your institution. We will send you anything for review before it is published, and nothing will go out without your written approval. You will have 15 days to respond. If we have not heard back, we will send a reminder, and if there is still no response, we will not publish the material. If your data or results are subject to a pending publication, patent filing or any other restriction on public sharing, you must tell us before the analysis begins. We will then confirm whether we can continue with the collaboration, and we may offer the grant to another applicant if the restriction would prevent us from sharing the results. A short interview, testimonial or webinar is encouraged but not required, and a positive testimonial is never a condition of the grant. Any testimonial shared publicly will note that the analysis was provided free of charge as part of the grant.

Limitations

By accepting the grant, grantees understand that CellOracle and Capybara analyses are computational, and that all predictions generated by CapyBio’s analyses will require experimental validation. This is an in-kind grant and is not redeemable for cash. It covers only the scope described above. Follow-up or additional analyses, and any change to the scope or timeline, are not included and require written agreement between CapyBio and the grantee. Timelines depend on receiving your data by February 9, 2027. Every selected project goes through a technical feasibility and quality check before analysis begins. CapyBio may withdraw or reassign a grant if the data cannot be analyzed as described, does not meet our minimum data requirements, or is not received on time, or if the confirmations made in the application turn out to be inaccurate. If a grant is withdrawn, we will stop using any data we have received, delete or return it within 60 days, and not publish any results or materials unless you approve them in writing. CapyBio does not guarantee any particular result.

Selection and notification

CapyBio will email selected applicants by January 26, 2027. Please reply within 5 business days. If we do not hear back, the grant may be forfeited and offered to an alternate applicant. Once a winner has confirmed and signed the award letter, CapyBio and the winner will hold the kickoff meeting to discuss project details and next steps.

Applicant confirmations

By applying, you confirm that the data and materials you submit are yours to share, that any required consents and permissions are in place (including donor consent for human samples and any institutional permissions), that sharing and analyzing the data complies with any data-use restrictions and applicable privacy requirements, and that they do not infringe anyone else’s rights.

Data transfer

Grantees are responsible for preparing their data and sending it to CapyBio by February 9, 2027, following our secure transfer instructions. Data must meet CapyBio’s minimum requirements, such as file format, sample and condition information, and basic data quality. We will share these with selected applicants along with the transfer instructions.

Publication of results

You are free to publish your own results. We ask that you acknowledge CapyBio’s analysis in any publication that uses it.
